Life gets busy and sometimes it is easy to push the family pet out of the way when you are rushed or when you are having a stressful day. Man’s best friend can sometimes seem like a nuisance when you are struggling through a busy routine and barely have time to brush your teeth. However, sometimes if you take a moment to pet Fido, you may also benefit. Here are a few fun and easy ways for you to bond with your dog, which may help you as well:
· Go for a walk: Dogs love to walk; it is much different from letting them outside to run around, even in a fenced in yard. When dogs walk, they have a purpose and enjoy getting out in the open to sniff and explore. This time can benefit you as well by giving you a moment to clear your head and organize your thoughts while you also get some fresh air and exercise.
· Take time to greet your dog: When you drag home from work or when you are struggling to carry groceries into the house, it is easy to ignore the dog or to push them aside. However, when you take time to greet your pet after you get in the door and get settled, it can help lift your spirits and also give your pets a little boost in attitude.
· Hang out when you watch television: When you are winding down at night watching your favorite program, invite your dog to curl up with you. This is sometimes tough when you have kids and this is the part of the day where no one is hanging on you or making demands of you. However, taking this time to bond with your dog makes them feel loved and helps you appreciate your four-legged pet while you relax.
· Go for a ride together in the car: Most dogs love riding in the car. Taking your pup with you when you go out to run errands or take in a short drive, gives them time to hang their head out the window, curl up in your lap, or just lie on the seat and enjoy the change of scenery. This basically just gives them time to be with you, which they enjoy the most.
Taking a moment to bond with your dog can help keep the stresses of life in perspective and can help force you to take a moment to catch your breath and get your thoughts in order.
